Welcome to the portal of my newest feature on Mofashiontalk
The date was the 23rd of January and I was a bit nervous for my first shoot ever for Mofashiontalk with the lovely, ever so fab Ndivhuho Mutula. We had such an awesome day filled with laughter and fashion(oh but of course).The pics below as well as the interview included will give some insight on the spunky, fresh and fashionable young lady that is Miss Mutula.
The location is Pimville Soweto and as you will notice this setting is nothing short of the hood….hope you enjoy….
1. What is your most hysterical/ridiculous college memory/most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?
I’d call it more dramatic than hysterical or ridiculous. I was in an argument with a female security guard, who saw it fit to butt into my business than do her job. Bottom line is our argument led to hearings, and ultimately her being fired.
2. Five things you can’t live without
In no specific order she says: eyeliner (has to be MAC), Lip-gloss (that too has to be MAC), my mommy, The Bible and last but not least stilettos! (Steve Madden, red bottoms baby (Christian Louboutins) and Castello to name a few ;-)
3. What’s your motto/advice you live by?
When God blesses you he has two people in mind. Yourself and the person you are supposed to bless as well.
4. Your favourite song to belt out at the bar/in the car/for karaoke?
In the car. It has to be “the reason” by Hoobastank! Its belt friendly, she says with a throaty chuckle. That song doesn’t need you to be talented, it’s not a Mariah Carey song where you need to master high notes….continues to chuckle…
5. Five years from now you will be…
I’m working on a website with my sister as we speak…..this is for our up and coming image consultancy, in five years we will be one of the best places that one can work into for fashion and image tips.
In five years I believe will have a magazine as well, in the ranks of True love, this magazine will include features on food, holiday destinations, clothes hair the works!
6. What are some tips you have for girls who want to update their wardrobes without buying all new clothes?
One word: Accessories! One can have a dress they’ve owned for a while but can spruce it up with different accessories,(bracelets, bangles, rings, belts, jacket, shoes)this gives you different looks with just one item ….I mean even hair is an accessory
Wearing an item in both seasons…for example a skirt that you wore in summer being paired up with boots and stockings or leggings in winter.
7. How did you get into fashion?
Well I remember the first time I gave fashion advice is when I was 17, in high school, she says trying to recall the exact age…..A girl called Pearl came up to me and asked me to give her tips on what to wear for civvies and the fact that she had approached me out of all the students she could have gone to was proof that I was obviously doing something right …and that’s how I started out basically
8. What is your go-to outfit?
LBD. Little black dress, its one piece, you're dressed at a go…..it’s not like a skirt which needs to be paired with a shirt or pants that need a blouse…A dress is simple and to the point.
9. What advice do you have for girls who want to get into the fashion business?
Do the best to educate yourself about the particular field you would like to go into (too many mediums to mention) everything is about a little more effort. Do the best you can with the resources you have, make what you wear look good and remember it does not have to be a certain brand or designer label.
She also continues to say...the true fashionistas for her are those that don’t really spend much on their outfits but manage to look like a million dollars.
10. Which celebrity style do you covet most?
Jeannie Mai and Victoria Beckham
Clean, chic, minimal glam, toned down and polished are some of the words I would use to describe Victoria’s dress sense. She keeps it simple but makes it still looks good!
